SAQA Benefit Auction 2011

The funds raised through the Auction are critical to supporting SAQA's exhibitions, catalogs and outreach programs.  You may view all the quilts online and pick your favorites.   Each quilt is 12" square, unless noted otherwise.

On Wednesday, November 3, Ami Simms will kick off the Alzheimers Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) where Tranquility by Barb Forrister can be purchased along with so many more wonderful art quilts. Please join the cause and help support AAQI. All profits fund Alzheimer’s research.

November 6, 2010: Quilting Arts Make It University Open Studios from 12-2 p.m. Barb Forrister will be demonstrating  how to make 3Dimensional fiber art trees at the International Quilt Festival. Should be a lot of fun!  Please stop by and say hello. I would love to meet you!

Gay Young Ousley also will have three pieces included in the AAQI exhibit:  Mnemosyne:  Goddess of Memory; Late Bloomer; and Autumn Glow.

Slideshow of ALL 2010 SAQA Benefit Auction Quilts

Kate Themel, Connecticut Region Co-Rep, has put together a slideshow of ALL the 2010 SAQA Benefit Auction quilts, complete with the names of the artists.  Thank you Kate.  Pick out your favorites and be ready when the auction starts at 2:00pm Eastern Time tomorrow, September 20.

The auction this week will be the quilts on page 1a and 1b with the opening bid tomorrow at $750.  The bid price will decrease each day for the remaining pieces.

How the auction and bidding form work

To help you get ready to bid in SAQA's 2010 Benefit Auction starting September 20th:
the bidding form has been posted, so that you can see how the Auction works. The form will go live on Monday, September 20th at 2:00 PM Eastern.
Only the pieces on page 1a and 1b will be available for bidding on the 20th. The opening bid price will be $750.

Over 280 pieces have been donated to the 2010 SAQA Benefit Auction.  The funds raised through the Auction are critical to supporting SAQA's exhibitions, catalogs and outreach programs.  SAQA's Benefit Auction is our biggest fundraiser.  Last year we had donations from 235 members and raised $47,325!!!
This year's Auction will begin on Monday, September 20th at 2:00 Eastern.  Price points will again be: $750, $550, $350, $250, $150 and $75.  Unsold work will be placed on the SAQA website for a month and then returned to the artist.

Your purchase will provide important support for SAQA's exhibitions,
publications, and outreach programs. For instance:

• This year we are traveling 10 exhibits, which will visit 17 venues
and be seen by well over 100,000 visitors.
• We are producing two print catalogs ("Transformations 09:
Reflections" and a joint catalog for "SAQA@20" and "A Sense of
Humor"), as well as a CD catalog for "Points of View." The catalogs
will be sent to participating artists, as well as to our collectors
and museums lists.
• We are publishing 4,000 copies of Portfolio 16 and mailing it to
collectors, galleries, museums, art consultants, and interior
designers, as well as selling it through Amazon and through quilt
stores.
• We hosted the "Art & Excellence" conference in conjunction with the
Opening for Quilt National. DVD's of the keynote speakers and panel
presentations (including the 2009 Quilt National Jurors panel) are now
available.
• We will publish four information-

packed issues of the SAQA Journal,
which are mailed to members and to our list of BFA/MFA textile programs.

How the SAQA Benefit Auction Works

There are 234 Benefit Auction quilts donated by our members. The SAQA 2009 Benefit Auction - Part 1 will begin Thursday, September 10th, 2009 at 2:00 Eastern. Last year's Benefit Auction raised $41,775. The funds raised through the Auction are critical to supporting SAQA's exhibitions, catalogs and outreach programs.

The wonderful Benefit Auction quilts can be seen on the SAQA website at http://www.saqa.com/newsebulletins/Squares09_1.aspx . There are so many wonderful ones there I want them all. There are several ways to view the quilts – by artist name, etc.

How the Auction works:

The Auction is run in three sections (Section 1 - Pages 1a and 1b; Section 2 - Pages 2a and 2b; Section 3 - Pages 3a and 3b).

On the first day of each section's auction, the price for all pieces in that section is $750. The next day (at 2:00 Eastern), the price drops to $550. The third day, it drops to $350, then $250, then $150, and finally $75.

The first section will begin September 10th at 2:00 Eastern.
The second section will begin September 17th at 2:00 Eastern.
The third section will begin September 24th at 2:00 Eastern.

You bid by filling out the online bid form. You can bid on up to 7 pieces at a time. First bid on each piece wins. We will then ship the artwork to the winning bidder by insured USPS Priority Mail.

Unsold pieces will be for sale at $75 in the SAQA Store through the end of October. If they are still unsold at that time, they will be returned to the artist.

The Benefit Auction quilts donated by our members have been arriving - over 235 have been received. The SAQA 2009 Benefit Auction will begin Thursday,
September 10th, 2009 at 2:00 Eastern.

Once again, it will be a reverse auction. Bids will be accepted at: $750, $550, $350, $250, $150 and $75. More information will be posted closer to the date. Last year's Benefit Auction raised $41,775.
