Caprock Art Quiler Circle Meeting Report

monoprint.JPG
The Caprock Art Quilter Circle met Nov 9-10 for a workshop on mono printing on gelatin.  Ten members spent Friday evening catching up on artful goings on in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico (as well as Houston quilts, classes and shopping!) and making gelatin.

On Saturday morning, Janet Moran taught us to make prints using ink and several brands of paint.  It was great fun and now we have several pieces each as a” first layer”.

In business, we elected a new secretary, Nancy Woods and Muff Fregia picked up several pieces to hang at the Midland Theater during the holiday season.

Show and tell is always a great time to share and of course we had a few critiques. Next meeting will be February 7-8.

North Texas Circle Meeting Recap

The kickoff meeting for the North Texas SAQA Circle was a wonderful success!  16 members met in the home of Heather Pregger.  The group decided:

We will meet quarterly, on the third Saturday of the month in January, April, August and November, from 1 to 4.  Members will have the option of meeting for lunch near the meeting place beforehand.

We will meet at Petit Atelier in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas.  They have very kindly, thanks to Carol Trice, offered us their classroom.

We will have a critique session, tentatively scheduled for August.  We will hire a local artist/professor/gallery owner from outside of the fiber art genre to look at our work.

We will find a venue to host a show of members’ work in early 2015.

Our next meeting will be January 18 at Petit Atelier, pending the availability of the meeting room.  The program will be “The Psychology of Creation.”  Members will share insights about their inspirations and the starting of new projects.

Report from the Caprock Circle

We had two great shows in the area. The Midland Show was Oct 5 and the High Plains Show was last weekend. CAQ was well represented at both. Now it's time to recuperate from Houston and then CAQ. Then Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Tis the season...

Caprock Art Quilters will meet Friday,November 8 at Grimes & Associates (Jean’s studio) in Wolfforth at 5:00 for dinner and to make our gelatin for our monoprinting class. Saturday morning, Janet Moran will teach us how to print on a bowl shaped gelatin. At lunch, we'll have our business meeting. Our nominating committee (Denise and Pam) will present a nomination for secretary and we will vote. Then more printing.

Please bring any pieces you want to exhibit at the Midland Theater (15% commission, please price your piece) and a piece for critique.

Please RSVP for class, overnight, meals.

Supply list for class from Janet:

Here are the supplies for those that are taking the class need to bring.  The kit includes all the paint, gelatin, fabric, ect that they will use.  The students need to bring an apron and rubber gloves (or any kind of glove to keep their hands clean).  I will have a hand out with info that they might need and room to make notes.

 See you in November!
