SAQA North Texas Meeting Report

Twenty-three members attended the North Texas Meeting on Saturday, November 15, and a wonderful time was had by all!

We had a really fabulous show and tell.  Members shared their latest work, and several shared samples from workshops taken during IQF Houston and at Art Quilt Tahoe.  Deborah Boschert presented a slide show of quilts from "Celebrating Silver".  I can't speak for everyone, but I left the meeting feeling very inspired!

Meeting dates for 2015 will be:

January 17
April 18
August 15
November 21

SAQA Houston November Meeting Report

There is nothing like the International Quilt Festival to get the creative juices flowing.  Although Festival ended just 5 days prior, 25 members and visitors of the the Houston SAQA Circle met on Saturday, November 8.  Mary Ann Littlejohn and Hope Wilmarth presented a workshop on monoprinting with a gelatin plate. It was great fun to try a new technique and create just for the joy of creating.  Thank you Mary Ann and Hope for a great workshop.

Mark your calendars now for the January 10, 2015 meeting.  Teresa Duryea Wong will tell us about her trip to Japan and research for her upcoming book "Japanese Quilts and Quilters".  I encourage you to visit her blog and learn more about her journey as a quilter.

The Houston Circle meets every other month on the 2nd Saturday.  Next year's meeting dates are: January 10March 14May 9July 11,September 12 and November 14.

See you in January!

North Texas Circle August 16th! This Saturday!

The summer is rushing by and I just realized our next meeting is this coming Saturday.
August 16th, 10 am, Petit Atelier. Bring your lunch.
Summer is apparently not a good time to find a critic. We had several (or thought we did) and then they backed out. So instead, I thought maybe we could have a mini-critique. Each member bring two pieces, and we will talk about them in some depth.
We hope to have a critic at the November meeting. Until then, we'll just utilize the experience and knowledge of the group.

The meeting will be:

August 16, 10 am, at Petit Atelier, 2952 Commerce St, Dallas, Texas 75226

Hope to see you there!

North Texas Circle Meeting Report

The SAQA North Texas Circle met on Saturday at Petit Atelier in the Deep Ellum district of Dallas.   18 fiber artists attended.  Not only did we share our news and our latest work, but we also discussed how we either find inspiration or how we start a new project.  The differing processes were really fascinating!  Some of us sketch, some are inspired by color or pattern and some of us are spurred to create by the leftover bits from previous projects.

Petit Atelier is owned by Mario Gallegos and Michael Crigger, two Dallas based clothing designers.  They have very kindly offered their space for our group, providing us with a funky, fabulous and utterly inspiring meeting place.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 19, at 1:00 pm, at Petit Atelier.  The program will be "The Business Side of Fiber Art:  Presenting or Defining Your Brand."  Members who wish to share will discuss their approach to marketing both themselves and their art.
