Through The Needle's Eye

Embroiderer's Guild of America

May 3 – September 6

Museum of Texas Tech University - Gallery 1

The Embroiderer's Guild of America's 20th National Exhibit Through the Needle's Eye, is a showcase of the best in artistic and technical embroidery. This juried exhibit features contemporary embroidery from across the nation. The works include both traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques employed to create clothing, wall-pieces, jewelry, vessels and sculpture. The exhibition shows the diversity of embroidery and how this age old art form continues to be practiced by artists of the 21st century.

For the Museum of Texas Tech venue the works will be complimented by pieces made by skilled embroiderers from the region, many of whom are master embroiderers. Embroidered pieces from the Clothing and Textile Collection of the Museum of Texas Tech University will round out the offerings -- wonderful 1820s school girl samplers, 18th century embroidered purses, embroidered household linens and other works from the permanent collection will be showcased.

In conjunction with the exhibit, Sue Spargo will give a lecture and trunk show on Wednesday, July 1 at 7 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. Click on the flyer below to enlarge.

West Texas Caprock SAQA Circle meeting Feb. 7

The West Texas Caprock SAQA circle will meet Friday evening, Feb 6 at Ruby Tequila’s in Lubbock for dinner at 5:00 before our opening at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center as part of the First Friday Art Trail.  Our show has been hanging since Jan 2 (and it looks great!), but our first opening was cancelled due to snow/ice.  The show will continue until Feb 21.

On Saturday, we will meet at 9:00 at my back studio at Grimes & Associates in Wolfforth for a workshop of deconstructed screen printing with Muff Fregia.  At noon, we will have lunch and our meeting followed by a program by Sandra Stephenson on “Holey Quilts”.  Please bring show and tell and be ready to get messy.

Call Jean for more details.
